Medical Physics

Storyboard

My stage in Medical Physics began with my participation in the training program organized by the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) at the Heidelberg Center in Santiago. For three intense weeks we learned in depth about the system developed by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schlegel at the DKFZ, the result of the close collaboration between this institution and the University of Heidelberg for the development of advanced technologies and methodologies in radiotherapy.

In a second stage I began to collaborate with the efforts of the University of La Frontera, led by my colleague Dr. Rodolfo Figueroa, initially as academic support and later assuming the responsibility of teaching the Radiobiology and Radiotherapy courses within the training program for medical physicists.

DKFZ Summer School in Medical Physics (2004)

Storyboard

In 2004 I participated in the first Summer School in Medical Physics organized by the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) at the Heidelberg Center for Latin America, in Santiago, Chile. This three-week intensive course marked the beginning of a collaboration between the DKFZ, the University of Heidelberg and various Chilean institutions to strengthen the training of specialists in Medical Physics.

The classes were taught by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schlegel and a leading group of medical physicists from the Department of Medical Physics in Radiotherapy at the DKFZ, who presented the most advanced methodologies used in Germany for treatment planning, dosimetry, quality assurance, radiobiology and optimization of modern radiotherapy.

The school represented a unique opportunity to learn directly about the scientific and technological approach developed in one of the most important cancer research centers in the world. Much of the concepts and methodologies learned during those three weeks later served as the basis for my participation in the training of medical physicists in Chile, particularly in the Master's Degree in Medical Physics at the University of La Frontera, where I taught the Radiobiology and Radiotherapy courses.
