Anomalies correspond to historical or contemporary cases where a catastrophe produced extraordinary effects due to its magnitude, duration or systemic consequences. They are natural laboratories to study fragility, institutional response and recovery. From physics, they show how small initial differences can generate very different results under nonlinear dynamics.
